L’Arche has made many promises to its sixteen core members: a home to live in, food on the table, a hand to hold during hard times, friendship, and love. Perhaps the most important promise is that we will evangelize the rights and dignity of each person.
In a society that at best ignores and at worst denies the value of people who have intellectual disabilities, we are ardently advocating for our cause with the object of making converts—converts who will see the light in each core person’s eyes as the reflection of God’s love for us.
Over time the ways we fulfill our promises change to adapt to the needs of the community—new equipment to make mobility easier, additional hands to make work lighter, different approaches to solving problems and reaching our goals.
Dozens of people help us by offering friendship, prayers, household items, professional skills, and financial support. Thank you for joining with us in keeping promises.
