John Schofield, known as Johnny to his friends and family, was born in La Gloria, Cuba in 1941. He spent his youth in a rural village of Oriente, where he lived atop a hill with his parents, older sister Virginia and younger brother Walton. In 1960, Johnny and his family left Cuba for the United States, where they lived in Miami until Johnny moved to Washington, D.C. in 1981.
Johnny is passionate about his family, his Catholic faith, his work, and his advocacy for the poor. A L’Arche community member, Johnny lives a simple life of compassion and hospitality which he shares with those around him. Johnny loves to talk to people in Spanish, work at Iona Senior Services, do homework, pray and make art. His artwork has been featured in dozens of exhibitions as well as the The Washington Post newspaper. Johnny regularly donates proceeds from the sale of his art to support the social justice work of his church, St. Matthew’s Cathedral and of L’Arche International. Johnny is very proud to present his art at The Potter’s House.

John Schofield, conocido como Johnny por sus amigos y familiares, nació en La Gloria, Cuba en 1941. El pasó su niñez en un pueblo rural de Oriente sobre una colina con sus padres, su hermana mayor Virginia y su hermano menor Walton. En 1960, Johnny y su familia se fueron de Cuba para los Estados Unidos donde vivieron en Miami hasta que Johnny se mudó para Washington, D.C. en 1981.
Johnny es apasionado hacia su familia, su fe católica, su trabajo y su apoyo a los pobres. Un miembro de la comunidad de L’Arche, Johnny vive una vida simple de compasión y hospitalidad que comparte con todos los que lo rodean. Johnny le encanta platicar con las personas en espanol, trabajar en Iona Senior Services, hacer tarea, rezar, y hacer arte. Su trabajo artístico ha sido presentado en docenas de exhibiciones incluyendo en el periódico The Washington Post. Regularmente, Johnny dona las ganancias de la venta de su arte para apoyar el trabajo de justicia social de su iglesia, la Catedral de San Mateo y de L’Arche International.
