Become an Assistant

Looking for an adventure in community living that will help you discover the depths of the human spirit? Apply to become an assistant (direct support professional) in L’Arche, where you’ll provide professional, personalized services to adults who have intellectual disabilities (known as “core members”), advocate for and with core members for the rights they deserve, and grow personally through mutual relationships within the community.

L’Arche’s mission inspires people from diverse backgrounds to help make our community a place where all people are welcomed and valued. It is most important that applicants to L’Arche have an open heart, a willingness to learn, a commitment to personal growth, and a belief in the unique sacredness of every person.

L’Arche welcomes applications from people of all ages, races, genders, faiths, and sexual orientations. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and assistants are welcomed throughout the year based on the needs of the community. Preference is given assistants who commit to living in community for two years.

Development Coordinator

L’Arche Greater Washington, DC provides housing and support services to adults with intellectual disabilities in a community life of mutual transformation and joy! L’Arche GWDC serves hundreds of people in the wider community, of many different backgrounds, by offering a place of belonging and growth. We are seeking our next Development Coordinator to join the team.

  • Who: A successful Development Coordinator will be an innovative thinker and task-driven person. They will seek to enrich relationships while communicating L’Arche’s mission and raising the resources needed to further L’Arche’s impact. The role holds a wide range of fundraising responsibilities, including partnering with our Friendship Builder, managing the database, and cultivating gratitude for donors.
  • Why: Our recent Development Coordinator was called back to serve in the Peace Corps, after being sent home due to the pandemic.

  • What: Pay rate based on experience between $18-$28/hour. You’ll have tools like a flexible hybrid schedule, a laptop, and phone. L’Arche’s compensation package includes 20 days of floating vacation days, platinum and affordable health care, generous training and development, and opportunities for retreat and reflection.
