Carolyn Rumer

Carolyn Rumer has been a board member since January 2017 and currently serves as the president of the Board. Carolyn is an attorney and former L’Arche GWDC Assistant who works for the Legal Aid Society of DC. Carolyn attended law school at the University of Virginia. Before law school, Carolyn completed a B.S. in Anthropology and Honors History at the University of Notre Dame.

Françoise Aubry-Kendall

Françoise Aubry-Kendal has been a member of the board since April 1989. She was involved in L’Arche in her native country Haiti prior to coming to L’Arche Greater Washington, D.C. Françoise retired from working as a resource management officer at The World Bank Group in 2016. She has over 20 years experience in financial management, budgeting and accounting. She serves as the chair of the governance committee and brings her accounting and financial management skills to the finance committee.

Kevin B. Belford Esq.

Kevin B. Belford, Esq., joined the L’Arche Board in January 2010 and is currently the Vice President. He has more than 40 years of legal experience primarily as legal counsel to associations and other non-profit organizations. He has served as an officer or board member to a number of religious, healthcare, educational, and other charitable organizations and foundations. He also works as a volunteer attorney with pro-bono legal service providers in the District of Columbia and Virginia. He is a graduate of Georgetown University (B.S.) and Boston College Law School (J.D.).

Constance Battle, MD

Constance Battle has been a member of the board since January 2008 and served as the Board president and vice president. She is an adjunct professor in the department of prevention and community health at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

Nadine Reid

Board Member

Nadine Reid has been a member of the board since December 2020. Nadine is a finance professional with extensive budgeting, accounting and auditing experience, at senior levels, in US Federal Government, the World Bank, the private sector and a big four audit firm. Nadine has worked at the World Bank for the last twelve years. Previously, she was the Chief Accountant at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Jamaica office for eight years.

Mike Clemente

Mike Clemente joined the L’Arche board in December 2020. He is a practicing attorney in Washington, D.C. and a former Assistant at the L’Arche community in Clinton, IA. Mike graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Yale Law School.

Bob Asselin

Treasurer of the Board

Bob Asselin joined the board in January 2015 and currently serves as the treasurer of the board. Bob first came to L’Arche as a volunteer through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps in 2004-2005. Following his retirement from a career as a USAID Foreign Service Officer and international development and nonprofit organization consultant, Bob returned to Washington, D.C. to retire in 2012 and quickly reconnected with L’Arche. He used to work as a part-time assistant at Ontario House and supported the community’s outreach and fundraising efforts.

Tim Malone

Tim Malone joined the L’Arche board in January of 2018. He first connected to L’Arche through St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Arlington where he served as the Senior Associate to the Rector. Several members of the L’Arche community attended there. Tim brings twenty years of experience in the Federal Government as a Mental Health Therapist. He specializes in family therapy, couples counseling, and substance abuse work.

Laura DeMaria

Laura DeMaria joined the L’Arche board in September of 2017. Laura is the Executive Director of the National Association for County Community and Economic Development (NACCED). Laura is an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the American University School of Public Affairs, where she earned a Master’s in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management.

Christine Madigan

Christine Madigan joined the Board in January 2012 and has previously served as Vice President and Secretary.  She has worked in the affordable housing field for over twenty years.  As the Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer of Enterprise Community Development, Christine is responsible for the organization’s new business sourcing, real estate development, design and construction management and asset management departments.  She is a graduate of Wesleyan University (B.A.), Yale School of Management (M.B.A.) and Yale Divinity School (M.A.R.).

Delila M. Pinckney

Delila M. Pinckney joined the board in April 2021. She is an experienced school administrator and spent 14 years working in the field of special education. Currently, she is the principal at The Pathways Schools Edgewood. Delila graduated from Howard University with a B.A. in communication and culture, Columbia University with a M.A. in social-organizational psychology, and George Washington University with a M.A. in education and human development in special education.

Philip Ward

Philip Ward became a board member in February 2021. He is Senior Counsel, practicing general business law at Williams and Connolly. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he was Development and Notes Editor, Harvard Law Review. Philip has served on the Washington Advisory Council of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights (now known as Human Rights First), the Board of Directors of CARA at Georgetown University, the Board of Governors of the John Carroll Society, and the Board of Directors of Carroll Publishing.

Malcolm Young, PhD

Malcolm Young, PhD, joined the board in January 2000. He is also a member of the board of L’Arche Homes for Life, and joined the L’Arche USA board in 2008 where he served for 9 years. He brings his management consultant skills to the governance committee.
