Dear Community,

It is with great grief, shock and sadness that the L’Arche Greater Washington D.C. community shares the news of the passing of our dear brother Andrew.

Andrew died Tuesday morning, following a short illness. His mom, stepdad, dad and sister were at his bedside. Andrew was able to hear our messages, have songs sung, books read, and see us on FaceTime, all in keeping with his planned wishes.

We will miss Andrew’s love of people, deep desire to be in relationship, and the connections he facilitated through handshakes, books, fake crying, and story-telling. We can take comfort in knowing that Andrew loved people so deeply and freely, welcoming each of us into his life and serving as a connector for so many people.

We hold Andrew’s mom Roberta, and her husband Richard, dad Bob and his wife Denise, sister Sarah, and all of Andrew’s family in our hearts. We invite you to be gentle with yourselves and those around you, as we encounter our individual and collective grief and sadness.

Please hold the community in your prayers as we grieve and celebrate Andrew’s life together. We appreciate your love and support and will share details of Andrew’s memorial services as they are arranged. Feel free to send us any stories and photos of Andrew that you wish to share.

In peace,

Euclid House and L’Arche Greater Washington, D.C.

As the obituary says: “Andrew was authentically committed to the human bond, delighting in the new friendships he created, and celebrating each handshake with a happy dance. Andrew was a gifted host, and his hospitality was boundless.”
“He welcomed each of us into his life while sharing the lessons of patience, humility, persistence, and connection.”
