#LarcheImpact – Eileen Schofield

Impact is a theme in our community this year and who knows about the impact of L’Arche better than people who have been part of our community? So we reached out to current and former community members to hear about their stories and relationships, and how L’Arche GWDC has impacted them. This is the fourth in a series of interviews with current and former community members of L’Arche GWDC titled: #LarcheImpact.

When were you at L’Arche GWDC and what were your role(s)?

“I’ve been at L’Arche a long time… I went to visit Dottie when I first came. I was over at Euclid house when I first came and Dottie introduced me to L’Arche.”

“I work in the office, I go to Potter’s House, I help with cleaning ‘round the house.”

“I live here at L’Arche, at Ontario House.”

What brought you to L’Arche?

“I wanted to be in L’Arche… I wanted to be in L’Arche ‘cause I’ve got friends in L’Arche that I wanted to see.”

What’s one of your favorite memories at L’Arche?

“My favorite memory at L’Arche is going out with friends. Going on vacations and going in the pool. Celebrating birthdays and holidays with people. I like to take walks- finding pennies, to look around the city. To go to the store and shop. See everything I want and if there are any DVDs I like. I like going to people’s house, like Melissa’s. She invited me over last night and I like doing that. I like planning trips to see people.”

What encouragement/advice do you have for people who are considering L’Arche?

“They can come and I can take you on a tour… come eat with us and I’ll take them on a tour! If they want to come and live at L’Arche, we’ve got a room upstairs.”

How did you grow in your time at L’Arche?

“I’ve grown a lot. I’ve made friends and met some other nice people. Talking up for myself and the things that I like to do for myself.”

How does your time at L’Arche impact you today?

“I can do a lot of things in L’Arche- going shopping and doing my own thing.”

“I love everybody in L’Arche, I’ve got nice friends.”

Do you have a favorite picture of your time at L’Arche you could share with us?
