Our Brother Mo

Maurice “Mo” Higgs 1936-2019

Dear Community,

It is with great grief and aching hearts that the L’Arche GWDC community shares the news of our dear brother Mo’s passing on Monday. He passed away with friends at his bedside, surrounded by the stories of his years in L’Arche, with people celebrating him across the world.

While we will miss Mo’s smile and pranks, we are comforted by stories and memories of a life lived fully. Whether faithfully praying for his family and friends after dinner or putting on a mouth phone (harmonica) concert on stage (or from the privacy of the bathroom), Mo knew how to show others that they are loved and worthy of laughing with.

Mo was incredibly loyal and always checked up on members of his church community, family, and friends, both old and new. Mo loved a good phone call and storytelling session – often talking about his copper wire, trips to Seattle, enjoying beer or coffee, or dressing up as Santa Claus.

The Euclid community will be a little quieter without Mo’s whistling and comments about police sirens and we’ll miss making Safeway trips for soda, hot dogs, and ‘tata (potato) salad, but Mo’s energy, caring nature, and humor will continue to live on in our hearts and community spaces. We are forever impacted by Mo and the way he graciously shared with us and taught us how to celebrate both the big and small moments of life.

Please hold the community in your prayers as we grieve and celebrate Mo’s life together. We appreciate your love and support.

Feel free to send us any stories and photos of Mo that you wish to share. Send them to: [email protected]
